New Yorker Ionel Talpazan drew UFOs, over and over again, portraying them as pumped up, extraterrestrial Christmas ornaments. They are typically neither menacing nor exotic, just a colorful part of a futuristic urban landscape. His obsession extended to a series of plaster sculptures with flying saucers of five to six inches in diameter standing on pedestals that sometimes take the form of giant hands. For a long time he produced his UFOs in obscurity and near-poverty, but his association with American Primitive Gallery brought him recognition.
